A Film Studio (screening and production space) located in the basement of our Simcoe Branch is available for public use. The Film Studio can be booked for a maximum of three hours per day, or used on a ‘drop-in’ basis for up to three hours per day if the room is not booked or in use.

You do need a library card, but we offer free library cards to anyone who lives in Ontario.

Politique de location Film Studio Screening - The Norfolk County Public Library only shows films we have the public performance rights to at public events. - Users agree that they will not watch films they do not have public performance rights to. If you are unsure, please ask. - Users are invited to screen their own creations. - Kanopy and the National Film Board are great resources for private screenings. Both are accessible with your library card at ncpl.ca. Film Studio Usage - This is an area intended for cooperation and the sharing of ideas. All patrons are expected to respect one another and their ideas. - The Film Studio can be booked for a maximum of three hours per day, or used on a 'drop-in' basis for up to three hours per day if the room is not booked or in use. - Bookings are limited to branch hours, unless you have special permission granted by NCPL’s CEO. Bookings are to end no later than 30 minutes before closing time. - The room is available for adults and young adults. Children under 14 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult over 18 years of age. - At least one person using the room must have a valid NCPL card. - All users and visitors are required to sign in at the circulation desk prior to entry of the Film Studio and acquire a Film Studio access badge. Access badges must be carried at all times. - All patrons are expected to maintain a safe and clean environment. Please ensure that workstations and floors are tidy and chairs are pushed in. - Please be aware of your surroundings. If you are sharing the space, be careful not to interfere with other patrons projects and ensure your project is not posing a safety risk to those around you. - When finished, please leave the studio in the manner that you found it. - This is a self-serve space. While we offer workshops here, staff can offer only limited assistance outside of our workshops. Feel free to experiment. - If technology is required, a key must be obtained from staff before entry. Staff will examine Film Studio technology before this key can be returned. - You are responsible for all equipment in this room during a booking. Equipment usage privileges may be revoked due to careless handling of library equipment. Please note that unattended library equipment is considered careless handling. - The room must be locked when unattended (even for washroom visits). - NCPL retains the right to monitor all activity conducted on Library premises to ensure compliance with Library rules and regulations. - Your personal items are your responsibility to monitor. Other people's personal items are to be respected. - Content created and shown in the Film Studio must conform to acceptable community and legal standards. - Film Studio visitors are encouraged to connect personal devices to Film Studio equipment but support for such equipment may not be available. - The Library reserves the right to erase user files left on Library owned hard drives and removable storage without prior notice. Customers are strongly encouraged to backup their projects to personal storage devices or cloud-based backup solutions. - Patrons must provide their own storage device (ex. DVD, USB storage) or purchase a DVD or USB memory stick from the circulation desk. - Prop firearms and pyrotechnics of any kind are not permitted - No food or drink is permitted during film production. Light snacks can be consumed during a screening. - Be safe and have fun. The library reserves the right to ask a patron to leave at any time if these rules are not followed.
